A Graphic Design Business Needs More than Just Fancy Design Software...

It took me FIVE years to realize I needed more than just Adobe CC to run my graphic design business.

In the world of creativity and design, it's easy to assume that having the latest design software and tools is all it takes to build a successful business. I certainly thought so at first. With 15 years of design experience under my belt, my focus was heavy on mastering the best (and sometimes the most expensive) design apps to produce my best and most visually stunning work.

But really, the real work is in the OTHER programs and details needed to run a thriving graphic design business. It's way more than creating beautiful designs. Running my business (I'll just speak for myself here) involves understanding business management, client relations, strategic marketing, and much more.

Here are five Non "Adobe" platforms I use everyday.

  1. Honeybook - It's my CRM, lead generator, invoicing and scheduling platform all in one. I also use it to create contracts and proposals.

  2. Google Suite - Other than Gmail for emails, the G-suite has great cloud-based benefits like taking notes ( Keep) virtual meetings (Meet) planning (Sheets,Docs) and team sharing (Drive).

  3. We Transfer - It's a great and free way to send clients there completed files, especially if they are large in file size.

  4. Wix - Believe it or not, Wix has some dynamic integrations that allow you to do email marketing (without signing up for constant contact or similar subscription), and even offers an app creation platform to turn your easily website into its own app.

  5. Canva - Yes, I am a professional designer that also uses Canva! Canva is great for planning quick design jobs and I also use it to wireframe websites and plan content grids

I hope this insight helps you as you navigate your own design journey.
